Before I accepted the position of CEO at City to City late last year, I had already started a deep assessment of the organization. As my assessment has continued, I’ve discovered areas where some team members need to be repositioned. In other areas, I’ve realized I need new team members in order to be well positioned for the future. I believe these changes will enable us to be effective and efficient as God brings increased opportunity and expands our vision.
Along those lines, I am pleased to announce Clay Cook has joined our team as Vice President of Advancement. Clay has spent many years in various senior advancement roles with Cru and The King’s College. He is a leader and strategic thinker and brings experience and acumen that position City to City well for our next phase. Clay, his wife Lyn and their twin 13-year old daughters love city life, having lived in China for two years and in NYC for the last nine. I’m thrilled to have Clay on board.
As many of you know, Doug Thorson previously held this position. Jim Collins, author of Good to Great, talks about getting staff into the “right seats on the bus.” This echoes my goal to get staff closer to what I believe are their sweet spots that match up well to their experience, talents and passions. To do just that, I’ve transitioned Doug to a Senior Director of Partner Engagement role on our Advancement Team. He is the ultimate team player, exhibiting great humility through this transition and playing an essential part in Clay’s onboarding.
The Holy Spirit is working through this phenomenally talented team to equip pastors and leaders. Thank you for partnering with us. You are contributing to and stewarding gospel movement in global cities.
May God bless you,
Chief Executive Officer
